Shelter Sex Drug and Career Rehabilitation.
Background
Coal camp is an environment infested with a lot of social vices that will deter a child from having a balanced and healthy growth.
Our general overseer Pastor Chukwuma David Nzeribe has always told us the pathetic story of how he was sexually molested as a growing child. He was sexually molested over 200 times by tenants in his father's house where he was born at No 6 Kano street Coal Camp, Ogbete Enugu. This traumatizing experience had both immediate and long-term effects on his growth and development.

When he became a youth leader in the Scripture Union Ministry, he found that most of the young people his age were facing drug and career problems and most of them were also sexually molested. In order to remedy the situation he started Shelter Sex Drug and Career Rehabilitation Organization. The organization was established in 2005. Several young people were engaged in private conversations and afterwards placed in different groups where rehabilitative help were provided based on problems peculiar to each group. Mostly encountered were sexual abuse, drug, alcohol and gang related problems.
Soon after it was discovered that these young people were not inclined to attend the rehabilitation programs, as they were already engrossed in various addictions and social vices these programs seemed to bore them. Therefore, we thought it wise to create some sort of motivation and side attraction. Seeing how much these young people loved sports, particularly football. We sourced funds and commenced football competitions almost immediately. This sport helped to bridge the gap and the organization was able to establish close contact with the young people while also keeping them engaged with something worthwhile.
During these football competitions fliers were shared to the young people and different professionals brought in to speak to them on several topics including their alcohol and drug addictions, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS amongst many others. Over the years Shelter Sex Drug and Career Rehabilitation has organized a lot of sport competitions, concerts, seminars, enlightenment campaigns and has empowered a lot of young people who have turned out to become successful individuals with proven integrity.
