Our Story

History of the Church.

The general overseer of Shelter in the Storm Assembly Pastor Chukwuma Nzeribe was born in Coal Camp which was rated the most corrupt environment in Eastern Nigeria around the 70's and 80's. It was an environment infested with crime and gang related activities. And as a result, he grew up as a very troubled child who went through a lot of molestation. At a time when he would have gotten completely out of control he had a change of life according to God's divine plan.
He gave his life to Christ in March 1994 and joined Gospel Youth Ministry in September 1994 up until 1997. During the crisis of Gospel Youth Ministry he joined Scripture Union Ministry. As a result of his devotion and indebt understanding of the word of God the leadership of Scripture Union made him the president at that time. By the grace of God he grew the congregation of about 450 people including women and children to a very large number.

It was while in Scripture Union that revelations came regarding his call to bring revival amongst the youth in Coal Camp. He answered the call and moved down to Redeem Bible College where he obtained a Diploma in Theology and received practical and spiritual training for three and half years.
He returned in 2003 and met with his friend Rev Chuks Ogbueli of Dominion City intending to work with him but who for some reasons encouraged him to take up the God given vision. Afterwards, he planned to go back to Lagos but had a vision where he was specifically told to go into the ghetto and work among the gangs having known their language and how best to penetrate the fraternities.

That was how Shelter in the Storm Assembly started with a group of 6 people in a two rooms apartment located at No 1A Arochukwu and subsequently moved to a rented hall at No 3 Eke street. On getting filled up the hall was expanded and soon after money was raised to commence a multi-purpose auditorium. To the glory of God the congregation has continued to experience tremendous growth ever since.

Over the years Shelter in the Storm Assembly has held a lot of crusades and street to street outreaches, focused mainly on the interior environments, villages and ghettos being the areas with a large number of deviant and frustrated people. Her target is to the less privileged and people who lost bearing in life, helping them to discover and become better versions of their purpose.
